If the Tiger Mk. I was enough to make a warrior break out into a cold sweat, then the Tiger Mk. II will make him know the meaning of shear terror. The Tiger Mk. II is an upgrade of the Tiger Mk. I that corrected most, if not all, of the deficiencies with the earlier design. While it is slower than the Mk. I, the Mk. II is more heavily armored, more heavily armed, and more advanced than its predecessor. Capabilities: The Tiger Mk. II is an open field main battle tank that is capable of engaging and destroying mechs and vehicles that are larger and more powerful than itself. Massing an impressive 75 tons, the Tiger Mk. II carries 15.5 tons of A.C.E. Type 4F Heavy Armor with CASE. This corrects the 2 armor related deficiencies of the earlier design. The CASE improves crew survivability should the Gauss Rifle take a direct hit in combat. The additional armor allowed the designers to add nearly 3.5 tons of armor to the rear of the tank, making it almost as strong as the frontal armor. The Tiger Mk. II has no one weak spot from which it can be successfully attacked. The Tiger Mk. II retains the Norse-Storm Model 7D Gauss Rifle of the earlier design, but carries an additionl ton of ammo for this main weapon. The Defiance P5M found on the Tiger Mk. I was replaced in the Tiger Mk. II with a Blazefire Sweetshot ER Large Laser. The addition of the turret mounted ER Large Laser greatly increased the Tiger Mk.II's damage potential at the sacrifice of accuracy. The Tiger Mk. II does not carry the brow mounted weaponry found on the earlier version, instead placing a Garret/Guardian Guardian ECM suite and Diplan Beagle Beagle Active Probe in that area. This greatly reduces the chances of the Tiger Mk. II being successfully tracked by fire support weaponry, and improves the accuracy of its own weapons. With the loss of the ER Small Laser, the crewman that normally operated the brow weaponry is now free to concentrate on running the new electronics package, ensuring optimal efficiency. For additional defense against enemy fire support units, the Tiger Mk. II also carries a Mainfire Point Defense Anti-Missle System mounted on top of the turret. Deployment: The Tiger Mk. II is a rarity on the battlefield. Produced in small numbers just before the collapse of the Federated Commonwealth, the design was not fully integrated into that faction's armored units. While the Tiger Mk. II is still under limited production, only the Federated Suns and those loyal to House Davion are still taking delivery of the tank. Tiger Mk. IIs are deployed as lances to provide heavy armored assault capabilities to units comprosed of other heavy tanks. Unfortunately, the high cost of these units means that they are rarely used in their intended role, that of spearheading armored assualts. Instead they are used more as command vehicles, as commanders can ill afford to lose one. |
