The Mastermind Mobile HQ is just what the name says, a mobile control and coordination platform. Capable of controlling an entire company of vehicles or mechs, the Mastermind is a high value target that should be protected at all costs. The Mastermind is usually the brain center of defensive units consisting of Rapier RPR2Bs and Shilka SHK-7As. Capabilities: The Mastermind is not a combat unit, but rather a command, control and coordination unit that makes available assests much more effective. Armed for only point defenses against light forces, the Mastermind must rely on other units to ensure its safety. Masterminds will never be found near the front lines, but rather far into the rear area where they can be best protected. While it is slow, the Mastermind's mission profile does not require it to be fast. Rather it is heavily armored to ensure that if it does fall under fire, it can withstand the attack until friendly forces are able to nuetralize the threat. Carrying 20.5 tons of A.C.E. Type 5B Super Heavy Ferro Fibrous armor, the Mastermind can withstand a great deal of punishment before being rendered inoperable. The Mastermind is fitted with very advanced electronics, including 4 Kallon Sure-shot C3-MU C3 Master Computers. This is the true strength of the Mastermind, as it can control a full company of C3 capable mechs or vehicles. The C3 Computers are not the only electronics the Mastermind carries, as it also has a Garret/Guardian Interface Guardian ECM and a Diplan Beagle Beagle Active Probe. For its own defense, the Mastermind carries a pair of Blazefire Longhsot ER Medium Lasers and a Mainfire Point Defense Anti-Missle System. This is only adequate against light ground forces or small missle barrages. If heavy enemy units locate a Mastermind, it can find itself overwhelmed very quickly. Deployment: The Mastermind is deployed mostly in the House Armies of the Inner Sphere. While they can be found in small numbers in all of the Great Houses, they are used mostly by House Davion and House Kurita. Masterminds will never be found deployed alone. They are always accompanied by at least a lance of heavy vehicles, usually more that are not under their direct C3 control. These guard units are usually elite vehicular or mech forces whose only mission obejective is to ensure the safety of the Mastermind they are assigned to. Masterminds are used to control mechs in the assault role, or to coordinate the efforts of the Shilka/Rapier air defense network. Masterminds are always dug in into well protected areas, far from the units they are controlling to help make detection difficult. |
