Named for Samuel Grainger, a local electronics magnate that was a vocal supporter of the right of planets to field their own self defense militias, the Grainger is Silver Wolf Industry’s attempt to merge high tech and simple designs to produce a hovertank that can take any environmental abuse a planet throws at it while staying near the cutting edge of tank development.

Its main weapon is the advanced LBX-10 autocannon. The turret mounted gun is backed by two tons of ammunition allowing the crew to carry slug, scatter, or both types of ammunition. A pair of machine guns are mounted forward to deal with infantry and unarmored vehicles to preserve the LBX ammo.

Well armored and having good speed, the Grainger provides good protection to its three person crew. Inside the machine is fairly spacious with a fold out bunk and ample food storage for long patrols. An oversized environmental unit is visible on one side as the Grainger was designed to deal with humid swamps or hot deserts as well as frigid climes. The ICE engine and lift fans are tried and true models with over a hundred years of service from the designs. In testing the Grainger has received high marks for its up-time and serviceability.

Despite the crew comfort built into the design, some pundits have argued that the ammunition dependant design precludes the Grainger from serving as a long range patrol craft. S.W.I. designers counter argue that using difficult to maintain power boosters would be a far greater hindrance to the Grainger in the field. Either way, the rugged and dependable Grainger should serve well for its intended role of garrison duty.
