The STN-1SW Sustinere was designed to get infantry and battlearmor troops quickly and safely to where they are most needed. To this end it mounts a decent amount of defensive armament, a high degree of armor protection, and a LOT of cargo space.
The Sustinere's primary anti-'Mech weapon is a single Extended Range Medium Laser. While not exactly a fearsome weapon, it does prove useful against lighter 'Mechs and vehicles that may threaten it. This main weapon is supported by 6 Machine Guns which are most effective against enemy infantry. In fact, it is not uncommon for this vehicle to drive into the middle of an infantry formation, mowing down the enemy troops with its machine guns while its own troops disembark to add to the carnage.
Those troops, however, are its reason for existing. To this end it has 8 tons worth of cargo space, enough for 2 full platoons of standard infantry or 2 squads of battlearmor troops. This makes it extremely popular with infantry commanders that want to get large numbers of troops into battle quickly. |
