Overview:
The Omen was never meant to be placed into production; it was first and foremost designed and built to test the Federated Commonwealth's latest technology from the NAIS. It was only on the order of Katrina Stiener-Davion that the Omen was placed into production. It was felt by Katrina that the design, showcasing some the latest offerings in technology, would bolster failing spirits in troops loyal to her.
Capabilities:
The Omen was a custom mech produced in-house at the NAIS for testing some of the latest technology. The Omen features a hyper-velocity autocannon that uses a gel propellant that allows the weapon to fire at longer ranger than standard, ultra, or LBX variants. However there is a drawback to the hyper-velocity autocannon, the gel propellant can explode causing the arm mounted cannon to become useless and possible killing the mech. To help off set the damage an ammo explosion could cause a case II system was installed and the ammunition was placed in the arm. To further help the pilot survive an ammo explosion a torso mounted cockpit was used.
The torso mounted cockpit uses the center torso armor instead of the thinner head armor. While the pilot is protected by the thick hide of center torso armor it is cramped, and can interferer with the operation of the mech. There is also a second draw back to a torso mounted cockpit due to its location. The pilot cannot eject from the cockpit. To help ease escape, should the need arise, NAIS engineers placed explosive bolts that will blow off panels allowing the pilot to quickly leave a stricken mech. However, the pilot of a torso mounted cockpit mech must remain conscious in order to leave.
The Omen also makes use of a new type of ferro-fiberous armor dubbed light ferro-fiberous armor. This type of armor does not provide the same amount of protection that normal ferro-fiberous armor does, but it is more compact allowing for more systems to be placed on the chassis. To help aid survivability on the battlefield a light fusion engine was installed on the Omen's chassis. The light fusion takes up less space in the vulnerable side torsos and allows the Omen to operate with the destruction of either the right or left torso unlike the XL style of fusion engine.
In order to keep the pilot in the fight after the ammunition bin for the hyper-velocity autocannon runs dry, the engineers mounted a pair of extended range medium class lasers backed by a pair of smaller extended range class small lasers.
The Omen had no clear battlefield role to play when the orders came down for it to be produced. So to help the Omen find a job on the battlefield the engineers decided to install the Angle ECM suite. With this advanced electronics suite the Omen can fill the role of a heavy scout, or a more dangerous role of setting ambushes for heavier mechs.
Variants:
The only known produced variant was the O1b which mounts the Bloodhound active probe allowing the Omen to scout for hidden units uncovering ambushes and hidden defensive works.
Deployment
Thanks to the Omen being a custom mech technical problems with mass manufacture kept it from performing during the Civil War. When pro Victor forces captured the NAIS they took 1 complete Omen and two that was being assmebeled. It is unknown just how many was manufactured and to whom they where sent before Victor's forces over ran the NAIS as most of the records was destroyed after a fire broke out during the brief fight.
Currently the Omen is being produced in limited numbers because of the custom nature of the mech not leading its self to mass production. Those being produced are currently on order to be sent to the Davion Guards and other units in depserate need of rebuilding.
