The SFR-3D Sptifire was designed by Akula Corporate
Engineering for House Davion during the Clan Invasion.
Meant to give the Federated Commonwealth a hard hitting
assault mech that could stand up against the invading
Clan armies, the design was a stunning success.
Capabilities:
The Spitfire is a first class assault mech, capable of
devastating any enemy unit that gets in range. The
Spitfire utilizes weaponry of differing range bands so that
as it nears its target, the damage it can cause increases.
There is nothing fancy about the Spitfire, it is big, ugly, and
effective.
The Spitfire's main weapons are its 2 Magna Hellstar
PPC's. While not the longest range weapon available to
the Spitfire pilot, they are the most powerful. The PPC's
are backed up at long range with a pair of Coventry
Starlight LRM10's. When the Spitfire comes into close
quarters with its enemy, it can devastate it with 5 Defiance
B3M Medium Lasers and a pair of Defiance P5M Medium
Pulse Lasers.
The Spitfire is not a fast mech, but its 270 rated GM fusion
engine does give it average speed for a mech of its size.
In an attempt to put the mechs tendancy to overheat to
good use, the designers incorporated Triple Strength
Myomar into the mechs chasis, and this has proven to be
a wise decision, as the Spitfire has a tremendous amount
of waste heat. The Spitfire has no jump jets, but with 17.5
tons of A.C.E. Type 4 Extra Heavy Armor with CASE, it
has little need for them. The Spitfire can take a
pummeling, and still reach its target with enough armor and
weaponry intact to make it a deadly foe.
Battle History:
The Spitfire has seen little action in its short deployment
history. It has however fought in several skirmishes with
pirate bands along the Federated Commonwealth
periphery boarders. In each case, the Spitfire performed
above expectations, and in one battle a pirate group
disengaged and retreated when a lance of Spitfires arrived
on the battlefield.
Deployment:
The Spitfire is deployed throughout the Federated
Commonwealth, but mostly in traditionally Davion units.
The Federated Commonwealth has taken delivery of 80
Spitfires to date, and have requested more of the mechs
from Akula Corporate Engineering.
