Overview:
The Pulsar is the first 'Mech to come out of the new SearcyWorks facility on Arc Royal , and in fact is the first indication many have had that the Arc Royal facility even exsists. Apparently, both the Kell Hounds and SearcyWorks have been constructing it for some time, but have only now opened it in 3064. While it began life as a Penetrator clone, somewhere along the way the PLS-5KH mutated, dropping 30 tons of its weight and becoming a fast-strike 'Mech.
Capabilities:
Armed with six SearcyWorks LightRain-2 medium pulse lasers and the heatsinks to use them (while running, no less) without pause, the Pulsar is a short-range powerhouse. It can dash up to an enemy unit at 118.8 kph, fire its entire array of MPLs, and then dash away at the same speed. It can continue to do this indefinitely, making it an incredibly frustrating opponent. Furthermore, even if one should manage to hit the Pulsar, that is no guarantee of destroying it, with the 8.5 tons of ferro-fiberous armor it carries. Fast, well-armed, and well-armored, the Pulsar is any medium 'Mech pilot's dream. The only criticisms about this design are the placement of its medium pulse lasers in the right and left torsos. It has been argued they should have been placed in the arms for great range of fire. SearcyWorks engineers counterargue that the MPLs will remain functional longer in the torsos because they are better protected, and also allow the Pulsar to engage in full hand-to-hand combat using both arms, while still being able to fire its entire array of weaponry.
Battle History:
Pulsars served in both the FedCom Civil War and the defense of the ARDC from Clan Jade Falcon. They proved to be adept at scout-hunter and raider roles, and were also commonly attached to a scout lance for the purpose of protecting them from other scout-hunter designs. While well-suited to these roles, the Pulsar is also fully able to slug it out with most other 'Mechs of its weight class as part of the main battle.
