Overview:

When a contract was offered for a medium to heavy battlemech with fire support capabilities, Blackstone Battlemechs quickly began designing a battlemech in hopes of catching the contract.

Capabilities:

Although the Chariot has below average speed for its weight class, the designers decided against an extra light engine. One of the conditions for the design was to be able to go for long periods without support, and the XL was deamed to costly. Secondly, the mech was designed for use in lances with heavier mechs. The designers used both endosteel and ferro fibrous armor to increase the mechs carrying capacity as much as possible. Due to the mechs weight and dispite the above efforts, the project was plagued with weaponry problems from the beginning. The mech was originaly slated to carry an advanced electronics suite, but that was cut due to weight constraints. The twin large lasers were downgraded from the extra range versions due to overheating problems and the lack of space for heatsinks.   The twin LRM 10s were problematic as well. While one ton of ammunition is usualy sufficient, on extended campaigns they risk ammunition shortages. Overheating issues and the vulnerability of the ammunition both contributed to the mech's design. The quad Prat and Whitney 440 jumpjets are the saving grace of the design.   the designers decided that the added maneuverability of jumpjets be more useful than a possible increased engine output. Using the jumpjets the mech is able to reach better firing positions, and thus, increases its usefulness.
