The Camelot line was designed to serve as a C3 Lance
Leader BattleMech. It features a number of special
features including a "jump seat" allowing a second
person to ride in the cockpit, advanced communications
gear that can track eight different frequencies at a time,
satallite uplink gear, and a modular system for it's
weapons and extra electronics gear that allow changes
to be made in a matter of a day or two rather than weeks.
Ten were made in the initial run with half being used by
Solaris warriors and the rest going to Major (later Lt.
Colonel) John Linna of the Suomi Warders. The A1
version is the model he used in his campaign against the
Yu-Shan pirates. Equipped with ECM, triple strength
myomer, and a special C3 master that linking into a
Command Combat Information and Control vehicle
(dubbed 'Bifrost') Lt. Col Linna's Camelot was cutting
edge technology for it's time and served him well in those
battles. (His original version mounted standard rather than
IR medium lasers). Sperry Uhtiva ran a successful run on
the Tier 2 title with a Camelot mounting a hatchet, the 3x
myomer, and a varying array of energy weapons that
same year.
Following the Word of Blake expansion into FWL space,
the Suomi Warders and D.E.W. became somehow
involved with WoB technological research and in later
years Linna's unit employed the Advanced C3i gear that
ComStar initially developed. While it is known that Lt. Col
Linna downgraded to an ER Large Laser from the ER
PPC what he did with the weight savings is unknown
outside the Warders.
Limited runs of Camelots are produced about every three
years. Few are ordered as C3 masters but a number have
been built with an active probe and either additional jump
jets or an extra ER medium laser and heatsinks. Another
version had a C3 slave and dropped two ER medium for
an ER Large laser. The ones used for arena combat
have wielded a bewildering array of weaponry. Warder
ones are believed to use the C3i and extra laser
weaponry / heatsinks based on the pilot's preference.
