Overview:

The Blitz is notable for two reasons: One, it is a fairly small, simple, yet highly effective design. Two, it mounts a rotary autocannon that was not designed or produced by Mydron.   Mydron has not screamed patent infrigiment about it either.   Analysis of Blitz's autocannon proves why this is so. It is not a knock-off of the Mydron Tornado, except in a very general sense. It has a different feed system, one that is actually somewhat less prone to jamming than the Mydron-designed system.

Capabilities:

The secret behind the Blitz's success comes in two parts.   The first is its brand-new SearcyWorks Typhoon RAC\5, and enough ammunition to keep even the most prolifigate user of it in combat for a decent amount of time. The second is its SearcyWorks 280 XL engine, which allows the Blitz to move quickly so as to get into a posistion to make use of its RAC.

Some corners were apparently cut in the design stages, however. The limbs appear to belong to an MJG-4K MechJager, but they are too small. Reports indicate that they are similarily constructed and share a number of small parts, but not identical. Regardless of their origin, they function flawlessly when mated with the Blitz. The two Hardlight Advanced-2 ER medium lasers are well-known for being shock-resistant, allowing the Blitz to punch without real fear of knocking out its laser optics.   While the Blitz does in fact carry CASE to protect its RAC ammo, it also mounts an XL engine, rendering vunerable to ammunition explosions. As SearcyWorks engineers are quick to point out, in the event of an ammunition explosion the Blitz will have been reduced to a single ER medium laser and the head-mounted ER small laser for self-defense and have lost both an arm and a side torso, so it is probably doomed anyways.

To make such an occurance as unlikely as possible, eight tons of SearcyWorks Mark I Ferrofiberous armor were applied to the Blitz’s frame, making it as tough as it can possibly be for a ‘Mech of its size.

Battle History:

While it has not had the chance to accrue the long and distingushed record that so many other BattleMechs have, the Blitz has made a mark. During the battle for Tharkad, the Kell Hounds deployed two lances worth of Blitzes to support their recon ‘Mechs. Paired of and attached to recon lances, the Blitzes provided support to their smaller brethren when the little ones got in over their heads. They proved to be very effective in that regard. Many Royal Guard MechWarriors attempted to pounce on a Kell Hound recon ‘Mech, only to find themselves under a withering barrage of rotary autocannon fire.   Relatively few BattleMechs can stand up to the kind of fullisade a pair of RAC/5s can produce for long, and several Royal Guard MechWarriors had their rides blown out from under them when they tried to pursue an escaping Kell Hound recon lance.

Variants:

Reportedly, testing of a variant that drops the RAC, ammunition, CASE, and ER small laser in favor of a SearcyWorks Railgun-Lite light gauss rifle and two tons of ammunition is progressing well, and it is believed that it will be offered for sale as an optional version within a few months. This version is designated BLZ-3KH.

Deployment

Few Blitzes have remained in the ARDC. The Kell Hounds purchased two lances, and deployed them in the battle for Tharkad. Of the remainder, most have gone to Lyran units that were loyal to Prince Victor and later Peter Steiner-Davion.
