The Mist Hunter has been used extensively in ice hellions
bid to invade the Inner Sphere. Its use of heavily
ammunition based weapon loads out suggests ambitious
purposes for the design. Very obviously designed as a
heavy scout, most variants contain a large six-ton jump jet
in the torso and a single exhaust port under the hip block.
Its top speed of 97 kph allows it to outmaneuver larger
mechs, and its relatively heavy armor allows it to withstand
more punishment than lighter designs.
Configurations:
The Primary Configuration mounts two streak short-range
missile 6 launchers. An often used tactic is for the pilot to
run in at short range while moving at full speed and
maneuvering wildly while the streak system prevents
wasted ammunition and controls heat buildup. Even
though the mech has the chance of running hot, the usual
intermittent firing style of the SRMs allows the pilot to fire
his lasers freely.
The alt A config is an unusual mech with twin AC 2 LBX
autocannons. There have been reports of four in a star at
once in combat against aerospace fighters. Usually
deployed in masse, it can strike from long range and has
the speed to hold its range advantage in most cases,
especially against larger mechs. Coupled with a targeting
computer, the Mist Hunter can deal devastating damage
over an extended period of time without fear of retaliation.
The alt B config is an all range mech. The design is built
around a single large ER laser in the left arm, which has a
decent punch at long range. A pair of medium pulse
lasers fills out the medium range zone. Twin ER small
lasers are useful for point defense and anti infantry
purposes. Since the design runs hot, it also includes a
quad assembly of machine guns to be used at close
range. A popular tactic is to run full speed into the enemy
firing every weapon available before using the jumpjets to
get behind the target and use the machine guns at close
range.
The alt C config is a unique design in that its main weapon
is two narc launchers. It uses its speed to run in the midst
of enemy mechs and unload its payload of narc missiles,
before retreating. If no backup is present, they can deal
respectable damage with their multiple SRM 6 launchers
which are narc compatible.
The alt D config is a long-range fire support mech, which
utilizes twin LRM 20 missile launchers. It is often seen in
concert with the C config, using the narc missile beacons
to increase the accuracy of the long-range missiles.
The Alt E is a obscure config rarely seen outside the one
on one combat of clan trials. With its swift speed it can
close to short range on its opponent attack with its
targeting computer enhanced ultra AC/20. The precision
granted by the targeting computer increases the ultra
AC/20's usefulness almost two fold. Even against mechs
twice its size it is a formidable opponent if piloted skillfully.
