The Lineman was one of SWI's earliest attempts at a
design using Clantech, and combat-wise they were
incredibly successful. Unfortunately the difficult
maintenance and higher cost associated with Clantech
caused buyers to stay away in droves, so the line was
discontinued after a single limited production run. A few
Linemen can be seen scattered among some of the more
affluent commands, and they have proven their worth in
combat even though they could not prove their wirth by
sales.
Designed as an all-purpose, all-range front-line combat
unit, the Lineman excels at its lack of specialty. For
long-range combat the LNM-1SW combines the incredible
range of an ER Large Laser with the awesome power of
an ER PPC. Although these two weapons themselves
can be enough to destroy an enemy at long range, the
Lineman doesn't skimp on short-range weapons either. In
fact, it mounts a massive LBX-20 Autocannon in its left
arm, backed up by 2 Streak SRM-6 systems and a single
Medium Pulse Laser.
Obviously heat would have become a serious problem had
the designers attempted to add any more weapons, so
instead they packed all the remaining space with double
heat sinks. Although it carries an impressive count at 19,
Mechwarriors can still find themselves overheating if they
aren't careful.
